Youth Martial Arts Program Teacher

SOJA MIND BODY is in search inspiring teachers for our growing Youth Mindful Martial Arts Program. Our beautiful studio is located in South Berkeley at the corner of Ashby & San Pablo. We offer classes and workshops for youth and adult in fitness, martial arts, and self-defense. We currently offer youth classes for ages 4 and up (including teens) 7 days a week.

STATUS & AVAILABILITY:
This is an independent contractor position. The position is available immediately.

HOURS & PAY:
• Teaching hours (minimum 2 hours/week, maximum 6 hours): $20 – $30/hour DOE.
• Non-teaching hours (for periodic scheduled meetings): $20/hour. Status updates via phone and informal meetings (under 30 minutes) are non-billable time.
• Hours are billed on a monthly schedule, to be paid within 30 days after the end of the month.

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
Our Youth Program Teachers are responsible for leading our regular weekly classes, as well as being available to participate in quarterly belt tests and other special events such as workshops, fairs, and camps. This position reports to the Youth Program Director and to the Chief Instructor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Teach regularly scheduled weekly youth classes from toddler – teen ages.
• Prepare the studio prior to class and leave studio clean at the end of class.
• Participate in quarterly belt tests, and other special events.
• Be familiar with and adhere to teacher policies and procedures.
• Periodically meet with and report to the Youth Director and Chief Instructor regarding class curriculum, student evaluations, and teaching methodology.
• Use Mindbody Online Software to record attendance, update student and parent information, and bill clients for memberships, drop in classes, and other purchases.
• Communicate with parents as needed during class times.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
• Experience teaching youth and communicating with their parents.
• Reasonable Athletic ability. Some martial arts experience preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication skills with kids/parents
• Show proof of tuberculosis shot within a year of the hire date – fee to be reimbursed 3 months after the hire date.
• Show proof of personal background check within a year of the hiring date – to be reimbursed 3 months after the hire date.

Youth Martial Arts Program Director

SOJA MIND BODY is seeking a Director for our ever-growing Youth Mindful Martial Arts Program. Our beautiful studio is located in South Berkeley at the corner of Ashby & San Pablo. We offer classes and workshops for youth and adult in fitness, martial arts, and self-defense. We currently offer youth classes for ages 4 and up (including teens) 7 days a week.

STATUS & AVAILABILITY:
This is a Freelance position. The position is available immediately.

HOURS & PAY:
• Teaching hours (minimum 4 hours/week with more available): $20 – $30/hour DOE
• Administrative hours (up to 20/month): $20/hour. Administrative hours can be completed remotely except for in person meetings. Status updates via phone and informal meetings (under 30 minutes) will not be considered billable time.
• Hours will be billed on a monthly schedule, to be paid within 30 days.

GENERAL OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
The Youth Director is responsible for spearheading our Youth Martial Arts Program including organizing curriculum, teaching, supervising other teachers, organizing belt tests and youth workshops, marketing, and other administrative duties. The Youth Director reports to the Chief Instructor.

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
• Teach regularly scheduled weekly youth classes from toddler – teen ages.
• Prepare the studio prior to class and leave studio neat at the end of class.
• Organize and run quarterly belt tests.
• Enhance the current curriculum for youth, keeping it in line with Soja’s objectives.
• Develop new and enhance existing special events and programs including kids workshops, on-site school programs, camps, and fairs.
• Market our program and events through social media and other networks.
• Increase the numbers of students in the Soja youth martial arts program.
• Supervise, communicate and direct other teachers in the youth program to ensure quality of teaching and consistency with the curriculum.
• Maintain and update policy and procedures for teachers.
• Communicate with parents.
• Use Mindbody to record attendance, update student and parent information, and bill clients for memberships, drop in classes, and other purchases.
• Check inventory levels on equipment and clothing necessary for student body training.
• Create Monthly Youth Martial Arts E-Newsletter.
• Additional duties as assigned by the Chief Instructor
